"The world's most profound meetings often happen at the edge of a blade"

The shore was caressed in gradually increasing amounts as the tide began to come in. The ocean was already lending enough salt to the sands but one man was contributing his own drop's worth to the proverbial bucket this morning.

"Sei!"

A spirited kiai echoed across the beach as an elderly man with silvery grey locks struck down an imaginary foe with a curved blade. Chotetsu gleamed in the dawn's light is it fluidly moved through the motion of a slash into a smooth trajectory that settled back into stance. The old man's eyes sharpened their gaze for bu a second before opening their widest. Instead of focusing on any single point of the shadow opponents he faced, Seiju relaxed his sight to take in all movement. This technique meant less details were visible, however it also made his peripheral and kinetic vision more capable allowing him to track the movements of the two attacks coming his way simultaneously.

From the front left, a spear thrust erupted from his imaginary enemy with deadly accuracy aimed to puncture Seiju's gut. On the opposite side, but still in front of the man, came a wild swing from a double edged longsword that threatened to cleave his head off in a horizontal plane. The pincer attack was a classic strategy taken by trained groups of fighters, but Seiju wasn't training to handle that situation for any particular reason. The last shadow boxing partner he'd just cut down was a lone warrior. This pair of attacks was simply the fastest simulation his battle-worn mind could conjure up without giving it needless excess thought.

Making a grunt of effort, the swordsman stepped in to bypass the spear as he ducked low under the longsword. "Tch..." Seiju sucked his teeth as his step in had been a fraction of a second too late. By his estimate, were it a real encounter, the spear would have clipped his abdomen. But there was no time to fret over something like that, his body was already in motion slashing the phantom swordsman's belly open before he could recover from the wild swing. The momentum of this cut would naturally carry Seiju to face the spearman whom was performing a horizontal swipe to chase after him. Seiju used his swinging sword to clash with the blow using an upward force. The spear jerked upwards and Seiju kicked off the sandy beach to perform a thrust accompanied by another kiai shout.

"Ha!"

Sweat flew from the old man's body as he impaled his target at the throat. The droplets hit dry sand and darkened it in specks of moisture. Seiju's robe was hanging from his waist, his arms and torso exposed to the open air along with the many bandages wrapped around them to cover up age old scars. His feet were bare, the sandals left at his hut, and the scarf he often wore was hung up on a nearby palm tree.

A deep breath filled Seiju's lungs before he exhaled and took a moment to stop and reflect on how he could have better reacted to that last exchange. Even small wounds were unacceptable costs during a protracted battle. Alas, perfection was always an elusive mistress. Seiju settled on the belief that he should have drawn his Tsukima Ken that was tucked into his cloth belt to deal with the spear with a parry. Thankfully his Doctor's Pouch was also on hand to deal with the imaginary wound were it real.

The elderly fighter would stand there on the beach in deep thought for a few moments, his mind focused.

Ensign Basa

Chain Smoke

Flick the Butts In They Guts

When They Done Breathing.

She Say the Spliff Take the Soul From Me

There had been an awful a lot going on in the Ensign's life recently, but alas the leash the World Government and his superiors had on him wasn't released, but given slack. While this slack was slowly being reeled in as Alphie's amount of off days lessened, he would enjoy the freedom of not being tugged and pulled around while he could. Pulled by wonder perhaps, Alphie found himself trekking throughout the uninhabited parts of Crescent Island. A bit of training would do him well he figured, after all, he had put in for a promotion and didn't want to return as the same man but with a new title. With positions of high authority should come power and Alphie was no hypocrite, so here he was in the wilderness of Crescent Island pushing his body to new limits. The style of dress he saw appropriate for such an activity was a black captain's jacket with golden highlights draped over his shoulders and bare chest, a few grams of gold weighing on his neck, a red sash with a knot and some slack on his right hand side, tucked safely in this sash would be his pistol, Curtail. On his legs were black pants that had not particularly discernible features and some typical looking adventure's or pirates boots.
Held in a cradle of leather straps that reached across his torso to his back where it rested was his most prized possession. Same-kiri Bocho. It was more of an oversized butcher knife and zanbato fused to one. No guard, just a long 40 inch rectangular blade, with an ivory and gunmetal edge to contradict its dark dirty grey looking body. The handle was just wrapped in cloth or bandages and supplied Alphie wight he grip needed for anything he'd encounter and need to use the weapon for. It was strapped to the outside of the captain's jacket, for easy access of course, or rather it was. It had long ago been removed from its holster to deal with some of the wilderness in the jungle found on Crescent Island and was now resting on his right shoulder, the blade protruding out towards the direction his back was facing, his right hand steady on its handle. Thick blood trailed down its edge and some dripped off its end. A freshly slain tiger being the donor to make such an aesthetic a possibility. Stepping out the foliage of the forest and stopping a couple steps deep into the beach, Alphie had been following the call of the beach he had just now stepped upon for a while. He needed to locate a safe zone to run to outside of the forest should things go for a bad turn out int he greenery. He also wanted to cool down a bit. In the jungle the ventilation wasn't eh best and things just felt so close, no space in other words. Inhaling through the nose, he let his lungs relish in the feeling of the fresh uncrowded and damp smelling air, and let the back of his tongue catch a hint of the saltiness in the air. His chest would rise back down as he exhaled in an accomplished manner, and continued onward towards the waters of the ocean.

Not far into this voyage however the shouts of another soul, human, buzzed in his ear. He hummed in thought for but a flicker of a moment and looked towards where the noise was coming from. He saw nothing but sand and water from the ocean, a faint sight of the forest in his peripherals, but he knew he heard something. Wedging his weapon into he sand as one would do a shovel, Alphie squatted down a few steps beyond where the ocean could no longer reach. Putting both hands together to form a cup, he gathered the cold salt water and splashed his face with eyes closed, refreshing himself. It was like magic how it felt as if he whole body was beginning to cool just from one dose of the brisk water. Slightly chilled from the splash, as one would exhale to see their breath on a cold day, Alphie did so involuntarily as a gasp from the temperature. "God damn, that's cold." He said to himself, standing and shaking his head to and fro shaking the droplets of water from his face. His bare arms out and exposed as was majority of his torso save for his back, he wiped his face free of the remaining salt water and as he did he heard the exclamation once more. He paused, face buried in his arm, before looking out towards the source of the noise again and deciding to head towards the sound. Grabbing Same-kiri Bocho out the sand, and letting it rest back safely on his right shoulder, he walked down the beach just on the edge of the water's reach.
It wasn't long before he saw a man, he was older looking with silver hair, he seemed to be in thought at the moment, back Alphie had no interest in standing and waiting for the process of meditation to run it time. "Hey you. Looking for a sparring partner?" The unsheathed blade, the evidence of perspiring was on his face and body, and the shouts from earlier were now logged as shouts of battle, it was something Alphie had grown used to doing in the academy a practice that basically the same as shadow boxing. "We'd both progress further with some danger added to our training and the animals in the forest get old after a while." He wasn't actually bored of battling the animals in the forest, but after a while he felt a bit bad for butchering the animals for the sake of training and not self defense or for food. He felt fighting another human would be more fulfilling as well. Should the man accept his challenge, Alphie would waste no time taking the offensive. With only three seconds taken for preparation, for the sake of his opponent knowing he was about to initiation combat, he began his assault. This three seconds of courtesy time consisted of moving Same-kiri Bocho off his shoulder and into a position on his right side that was angled diagonally towards the ground, but still closer to being parallel with the ground, than being at a forty-five degree angle. His left hand would have also joined his right hand on the handle of his weapon at this time. Then finally his feet would have slid in the sand, specifically his right, back away from his opponent. His knees would have lowered into a healthy crouch allowing him to be reactive and his posture would have lowered as well, to ease up the tension that could be put on the back activating the muscles in his arms more so to steady his large weapon. "Here's to a good work out. A distance of 7m separated him and his foe and at the end of the three seconds of prep, Alphie would have moved in to close the gap by 2m in a second's worth of time. As he did so, his weapon would have lowered to scrape the grains of toasty colored sand, before lashing his sword out forward towards the man once he reached roughly 1.5m. This would send an arc or wave sand outwards in front of Alphie in a 4 o'clock to 9 o'clock range of motion if cutting through the center of the clock was an appropriate motion. It had also swerved a bit on the left hand side, the swing having originally been moving in a 10 o'clock direction, but it naturally came down to 9 o'clock at the end of the swing. With the wave of sand destined to meet the area the man was at in less than a second from the velocity of the one second swing, Alphie would choose to carry onwards beyond his 2m mark with the sand as cover. While vision wouldn't be fully impeded from the veil of grains, it would form a screen of sorts and be able to blind anyone that was caught in a 5m wide cone of Alphie that stretched 8m beyond its point of origin.
Slightly revving up his pace a bit, Alphie's eyes would be steady on his sparring partner, assessing what how he would respond. Given the way the sand was flung Alphie's eyes would be unharmed from the gambit put into play. Such a thing would be true even with the slight acceleration in movement speed accounted for. So with his grass green eyes locked on his target, unless some trickery had been executed, Alphie would wait for the man's response and act off that to reinforce his next blow which was ready to come down from an angle originating at 11 o'clock. His hands had switched places one at a time through the course of his first swing, to appropriately prepare him to attack on his left side with maximum power.

Seiju

Seiju
The serene stillness of streamlined thought running through Seiju's mind was interrupted by a thrown pebble that came in the form of a young man's voice. Crystal-like green eyes opened and eyebrows that were like dots raised as the older man turned his head to his right to gaze upon the stranger. It was like the boy had walked straight out of Seiju's imagination and stepped into corporeal form. The youth was roughly a foot shorter than Seiju based on appearance, but the weapon he held was of an impressive size considering his build. A smirk played gleefully across the elder's lips as he considered the young man's potential based on a glances worth of information. To be holding such a large weapon with solid confidence and the boldness required to ask a large man such as Seiju to spar.

"...How long has it been?..."

The question posed in Seiju's mind while the kid tried to sell his offer of a spar by pointing out how futile it was to train against the natural beasts of the island. As those words were being spoken, Seiju's internal dialogue encouraged a sense of excitement that the old man hadn't felt in nearly six years. "He holds himself well, must have an impressive physique to handle that weapon...He's a bit old, but his potential might make up for that." The former marine considered the details he had gleaned from a visual scan and concluded that it was worth his while to take this stranger up on the offer. Seiju was making too many assumptions as of right now to be sure of the kid's nature just yet. "Alright, ready whenever you are, boy."

Calling the young man a "boy" or a "kid" would be strange considering that he was likely at least in his twenties based on looks. But for one with an advanced age such as Seiju, just about everyone he encountered was still a brat in his eyes. Nevertheless, Seiju would fail to underestimate the fighter by way of judging the book by its cover. His smile remained, but his eyes narrowed and his legs moved to drop his center of gravity a bit lower. The blade, Chotetsu, was held in a firm on handed grip in Seiju's right hand, the arm itself hanging limp by the geezer's side. The sword would have sunk it's edge into the sand were Seiju any more lax. It remained like this even as his opponent began to take action, closing the distance between them at impressive speeds for a man holding a weapon nearly as large as he was.

The incoming stance was a decent one for a forward charge, but the approach was "too simple" with how straightforward it was. Or so thought the old man anyways. As the blade's tip lowered to part the sands Seiju was forced to re-evaluate things, it was not as straightforward as things had seemed.  "Good." Seiju said, commending the boy, as he watched the sandscreen bloom into creation from the rising cut. It was a fine tactic showing Seiju that the kid had a good head on his shoulders. Perhaps he was worth investing time into after all. These thoughts would only come later after the spar once Seiju had time to reflect on these events however. For the moment his head had to be present and focused on the ordeal at hand.

An attempt to close his eyes was made before the sandy wave could meet Seiju's peepers, but it wouldn't save him from the inevitable irritation he would feel once his eyes had to open again.  Still, it saved the old man from having to worry about the itchy distraction interfering with his response. As the sands flew, Seiju flew into them. Stepping in swiftly with a strong kick off the ground, Seiju kept his right side facing his attacker. As the swordsman stepped in, he whipped his one handed sword upwards in a cut that favored speed over power. The step had carried him far enough for the distance between them to close to a mere 0.5m. The blade had snaked its way to a trajectory that would lash out at the most logical end point the sand launching maneuver would lead to.  A vertical rise followed by a clockwise rotation to draw a diagonal downward stroke across where the stranger's raised arms were likely recoiling from the momentum of his own strike.

It was a determination to advance rather than retreat that drove Seiju's actions. In this way, he sought to hasten the time his sparring partner had between attacks even if only by a fraction of a second. To steal the tempo the boy sought to create and make it his own. The cut Seiju made to the air was less of an attack and more of a threat to ward off any plans of bringing that giant hunk of metal down for a vertical blow by placing the arms that held it up in harm's way. It was a true attempt to draw blood, but one that could easily be avoided so long as the kid didn't commit on a downward follow up strike. That being said, Seiju's slow start to taking things seriously had inflicted him with an ailment that was potentially fatal in a sword duel. His opponent had crippled his eyes. The green oculars now only able to squint open enough to allow a faint blurry view of the world that had to be enjoyed through small slits of light. This required a bit of insurance so Seiju kept his left hand loose and at his waist, ready to flicker into action at a moment's notice.

With the ploy he pitted against the older bloke, Alphie honestly hadn't expected him to take the route that was probably the smartest choice one could take. Most would see the sand coming and try to back up, not only prolonging the duration they were in the sand's spray by a few valuable fractions of a second, but more importantly they let Alphie keep the tempo of the fight in his favor. With his weapon style while most don't really think of it for some reason unbeknownst to Alphie himself, after sword swings usually he'd be fairly vulnerable. But that was usually and right now that wasn't the case. With the swordsmen's vision already dampened from the sand and a distance where Alphie could easily analyze his twisted advance, the Ensign would stop his own advance. Sword draw He thought to himself from seeing the man's torques body positioning. From a natural foot imprint in the sand that came with running, to the sand's surface breaking under the new exertion of pressure. Grains grinding on grains, the sound and sensation mixed with the anxiety of sparring a new person, Alphie's skin got goosebumps.
His opponent's blade draw had yet to develop, but by the time the blade's greedy lash outwards towards Alphie's flesh would have began, the Ensign would have already collapsed the sand that was underneath his feet and retreated backwards. While the geezer did well to break the tempo Ensign Basa was setting, the Ensign still had more steam in him than that. "Quick thinker aren't we." The words were expelled through a slightly strained strained chuckle as his next movements made a development. He wasn't even half a foot off the ground as he was moving backwards a single foot to evade the blade strike to come. That would put potentially 30 inches in between the two, so with Alphie's arm reach and blade reach, the man would still be well within reach. With a grin on his face, he hoped the man's deterred vision wouldn't allow him to read the retreat too quickly. It wasn't anything the Marine would let weigh down his brain however, for in synch with the swordsman's blade strike that was set up to now only cleave air, Alphie produced his rebuttal. His left hand would find itself lone on the handle of Same-kiri Bocho and the muscles of said appendage, would find themselves working overtime and increasing in size as the Marine did work. This was when Alphie began his retreat, but this maneuver's lifespan would end soon after the swordsman's draw.
The blade was originally moving to make grand intro from the 11 o'clock angle, but such a thing wouldn't be happening with the tempo forcibly changed. It'd have to come from 10 o'clock instead. The cleaver would decimate all in front of its wielder from 10 o'clock straight to 4 o'clock. It wasn't too common as previously implied with not many thinking to advance while he was vulnerable, but Alphie wasn't entirely foreign to people trying to exploit his weapon in the ways this one was trying to. Both the speed at which he could handle it and the size. The deadly range the cleaver had, made fighting at close ranges a hassle, but that's what Alphie had his sidearms for. These tools defeated the notion that the Marine was inefficient at a close range for however long he could manage wielding Same-kiri Bocho in one hand. So while Same-kiri Bocho's swing could be seen as a response to deal with this invasion of space, it wasn't. It wasn't quick enough for such a thing, Same-Kiri Bocho was more fitted for being the finishing blow after the foe dealt with the set up. With 40 inches of blade reach alone, not counting the Ensign's arm, backing out probably wasn't an enticing route to take for obvious reasons. If the swords' sailing cleave wasn't enough to convince the swordsman's however, Alphie figured the introduction of Curtail would. Not only as a precaution and discouragement for an advancement further into the gap Alphie was trying to keep trying, but Curtail would work to also eat up the time Same-kiri Bocho would need before it could eat. As soon as the Ensign withdrew from his previous spot and his left hand was left to slave overtime on Same-kiri Bocho's heaving, his right had slithered with haste to the handle of Curtail and drew it in a blink. With the pistol in his hand, Alphie's arm would be pulled back, a few inches away from his ribs on his right side akin to a western cowboy's cliche quickdraw pose. This placement was to avoid interfering with his own blade swing or more importantly harming himself. It also gave the draw of the pistol less distance to travel, from tucked in his sash to near his right side.
As soon as the pistol draw had completely fulfilled itself, Alphie would fire two shots clear of his own left arm or weapon due tot eh timing of the shots. One aimed at the man's right collar bone since he was a right handed swordsman it seemed and the second at his left collarbone for the sake of disabling him. One shot would have came by the time the swordsman was about halfway through his speedy draw, the other would come immediately after the man's response to his sword swing, so Alphie's arm and sword would have been out of the way both times. "Careful now." He would jest when the first shot was fired. All his actions were non-lethal of course. With Same-kiri Bocho, should he man be hit, with his height and having executed a sword draw, given it was committed to, Ensign Basa would execute a quick flick of the wrist. Such a flick would rotate the blade since it was in his hand and it'd be more like a paddle smack, as opposed to the thing undeniably cleaving into the fellow.

    Seiju
Obscuring shadow covered the edges of the slits that Seiju's sight had become. An irritating urge to itch were a fragment of sand managed to slip into the corner of his left eye was growing. His body betrayed him and the lid forced itself shut as tears flooded the area in an attempt to wash away the foreign particle. But Seiju still had his right eye and a hazy glimpse of the world through it. He couldn't possible tell the exact movements of his opponent, but it was enough to capture the sight of him retreating to avoid Seiju's slash. The resulting gap between them from such a maneuver would be a problem for the old swordsman. It was not wise to let up on the pressure now as even a fraction of a second's worth of breathing room could allow this youth to reclaim control over the flow of battle.

Knowing only that he needed to attain a more favorable position and perhaps buy time to clear his eyes of sand, Seiju's Sharp Reflexes responded to the sight of the Ensign's backward movement by executing an act of Extreme Acceleration. As Seiju's sword crossed empty air and passed the radius where Alphie's arm would have been, the old man's body would suddenly crouch low to the ground. The large sword was already in motion but Seiju was beneath it's travel arc. The gun draw he never even knew had happened snapped into action, but before the trigger could be pulled, the silver haired veteran had practically vanished into a blur of motion. A heavy footprint in the sand was all that remained.

A skill known as Touho had carried Seiju through a high speed step that pushed the boundaries of his current physical limitations. The result was a low-to-the-ground dash past Alphie. Normally this skill would have been able to move Seiju at least two meters, but the soft footing of the beach had absorbed the force of his step reducing that range to a single meter. Still, it was enough to get him just past his swashbuckler of a sparring partner. A second step would carry Seiju one more meter away making it just about 42 inches between them. Seiju was still inside the boy's attack range, but he had no way of knowing this at the moment. "My name is Seiju. What should I call you? Sandman?" He said as an introduction. The jest thrown in at the end of the words was mostly meant to buy time however, as the swordsman immediately raised his free left arm to rub away the sandy irritant.

Seiju would begin turning to face the young man as he cleaned out his peepers. He was fairly helpless at the moment and had no means of responding to a followup attack from the young man if one came. But the defenseless gesture would be a decent test of the kid's self control or intentions. If anything bad happened Seiju could always sew himself up. Perks of being a doctor and a fighter. You knew how to lick your own wounds.

    Stamina: 135/50
    Skills:
Extreme Acceleration ~ Once per post, the user can instantly accelerate to their maximum speed from a complete stand still. This only lasts an instant and can only affect one action(Drawing a blade, taking ONE step, throwing a SINGLE punch, etc.)

Sharp Reflexes ~ Assuming the practitioner is aware of an incoming threat, they are capable of reacting to it in some way no matter how short of a window there is to move. This does not grant the speed to dodge or block any attack, nor does it grant the foresight to predict one. Catching the user unawares negates the use of this passive. However, it does allow the user to make subtle last minute movements to mitigate damage by a minor degree. What would be a deep cut could potentially be reduced to a moderately deep wound instead, assuming of course the swordsman his room to move and is physically capable of doing so.

Tier 1 Skill Name: Touho | Flying Step
Tier 1 Skill Type: Melee Weapon
    Tier 1 Skill Range: 6m
    Tier 1 Skill Cooldown&Duration: 3|Instant
Tier 1 Skill Description: A footwork technique in which the user accelerates to their maximum speed in an instant to move 2m in a single step. This can be repeated for a total of three steps before the skill ends. These steps can be performed on almost any surface and carry the user in any direction. However it still requires something solid to step off of and can't be performed on air or liquids such as water.

The battle was a fast paced race of minuscule movements and maneuvers triggered by one another. With Alphie's reaction, the swordsman reacted accordingly and as would Alphie again. This would lead to the Marine's downfall sooner or later should it persist given the close quarters the battle was occurring in, putting him at a disadvantage. He'd keep his confidence however and not let his opponent see he was putting pressure on him. He always had his second sidearm he could rely on if need be, Īzasu.

As his large weapon was making movement, Alphie's eye caught the movement of his foe. The duck downwards to be underneath the swing of the blade trigger Alphie's weapon Curtail to do its job as a goalie and fire. The weapon was already drawn as Same-kiri Bocho was making movement, and as said, when drawn it would have been fired immediately. The result however would only result in a grazing blow. Just as he ducked down, he vanished in synch with the pang of the gunshot. Alphie didn't only feel the winds created by the man's increased speed, but he also noticed which direction his foot was directed in according to his foot print in the sand. The impression was rough due to the pressure he applied to attain such a speed, but it's shape was defined enough as a rectangle or oval to show which direction the movement was heading or had headed.
Alphie's natural reaction wasn't to retaliate or look for the man's body, but to leap forward as soon as he landed out his hop backwards. With his leap forward, he'd be quick torque his body over the left side, Same-kiri Bocho being on his lower right from its previous swing, would lash out to cleave empty space as he did so. Curtail would have been voluntarily dropped into the sand allowing his right hand to asset with the swing. The swing would have force enough to create a slight draft of sorts, nothing harmful enough to shoot sand, but a small breeze of displaced air. In addition eh force would be powerful enough to bring Alphie's whole frame around in one-hundred and eighty degrees to face the swordsman who had been behind him rubbing his eyes free of sand.
From a meter of space to roughly three, Alphie let his guard fall lax as he gave the man the courtesy of fighting unhindered. "Sandman works, but most know me as Alphie. Whatever gets your rocker moving is fine with me." He chuckled with his words and let the intensity of the quick round roll off as the next one was about to come to a start, if Seiju were paying close attention he'd notice the peculiar grip the Marine had adopted on his handle. His right had held the weapon traditionally, while the left held the sword as if he were going to wield the weapon in a backhanded fashion. Same-kir Bocho was nearly horizontal on his left side. A bit of slack in the arms and hands let it angle closer towards the sand, but this slack could be replaced with ferocity at the moments notice of course. His left was closest to the actual blade, while the right hand found home closer to the end of the handle where a single empty ring resided, only about an inch of space was in between them. "This one's on your mark samurai." Alphie grinned and kicked Curtail off to the side as it was on the ground, showing Seiju he had no intentions of using his pistol anymore. Confidence would drip off his frame while he moved back into the stance he adopted during preparation the last time. Some alterations were the grip of course, and the side he was wielding the weapon on was different. He'd remain still as he awaited the man's move, but it was apparent something in him had changed a bit. He was a bit more determined to win now, having had the chance to see his opponent put on such a display of speed. This wasn't like the spars back at the academy or with Captain Blanka, it was a battle that showed the Ensign he still had a lot more to grow, whether he lose or win. "In situations like this you either learn or you learn, I can't see a possible way of losing today." His grin wasn't sly or mysterious as it usually was. While it didn't break into a giddy smile, it still reflected that Basa was enjoying himself.

    Seiju

    Marines
    Marines

    Seiju
The gust of wind produced by Alphie's blade blew past Seiju harmlessly as he stood a short way outside the range of the attack. The only influence it had on his form was to make the geezer's silvery greying hair dance lightly in the direction of the attack. Seiju hadn't managed to get to this "safe spot" unscathed however. Nerves made numb by shock were now waking up and sending signals to Seiju's brain that warned him of a scorched sensation where a layer of flesh had once been. The swordsman was only aware that a gunshot had occurred from the sound of the muzzles roar. Now he knew that it had managed to graze him before he could escape the young fighter's view.

Before he could take a look at the damage, Seiju needed to wipe away the sand from his eyes. His left eye was still a bit watery once he was done, but it would clear in time. With his eyes somewhat cleaned of sand now. he turned his head to inspect the injury while Alphie spoke. Charred skin surrounding a crimson leak. It wasn't something that would kill him, but it wasn't an acceptable loss for the old man. He could hardly be justified in blaming himself as his sight was impaired from seeing the gun draw in the first place. But Seiju cursed himself anyways and internally demanded better from his out of shape body.

Looking to Alphie now with clean eyes, Seiju put his self discipline aside and smiled. It was a joyous thing for an elderly warrior to meet a kid who had the cunning to execute such tactics in battle. Some might have considered them underhanded, but to Seiju they were the actions of a survivor. One whom might just live to be as old as he was some day despite a career of endless battles. "Alphie, eh? Not the best name for a fighter if you ask me, but you didn't so I don't suppose you care what I think." The silver haired combatant said as he reached up with his left hand to put pressure on his right shoulder wound. The large man cracked his neck side to side as he watched the young man take on an unorthodox stance with his sword. It was hard for Seiju to see what sort of benefit the hand placement gave Alphie. But there was no denying the self-confident aura glowing from his youthful opponent. There was something to this form that allowed Alphie to maintain a sureness of himself like that. Perhaps it was part of a trick, but Seiju would never come to know for sure if all he did was stand there observing.

As Alphie called on Seiju to make the first move, the swordsman grinned and began to step forward. He had already been thoroughly warmed up physically, but this kid had gotten Seiju's fires burning. His mind was now invested in the spar bringing out a side of the old man that hadn't seen the light of day in years.

    Shifting Sands[Open|Training] Tumblr_mzba5zbjhX1rfbdu4o1_500

A presence more akin to a beast than a man poured out from Seiju as a passing breeze tugged his hair tie away allowing the mane of silver lines to waltz about freely. "I'm no samurai. Just a retired marine who lost his reason to live." Another slow step carried Seiju forward. His arms had abandoned any stances and hung loose at his sides, the only tension being in his hand so as to grip his blade. "I think I've found a new one though." The distance between them closed with a third step that put Seiju standing just outside the edge of Alphie's effective range. The swordsman's eyes were wide, like those of a predator tracking its next meal as he spoke. "You have my thanks, Alphie."

The words of gratitude were followed by a blink's worth of time that was dedicated solely to a pause. Then the stillness was broken by a sudden burst of Extreme Acceleration that saw Seiju's sword raise pointing eye level with Alphie's vision. The positioning would make it hard to grasp the true distance and length of the weapon. This act was followed by two simultaneous movements from Seiju. With his opponent's focus hopefully on the larger sword, his left hand moved to draw the shorter blade from his waistcloth. At the same time, Seiju thrust forward making a half step in. In truth, this stab would fall just short of ever even touching Alphie, but it would be hard to perceive this unless the young man changed his line of sight.

the richest man wears a snatch-less necklace

"A man I respect a lot gave it to me, so watch what ya say about it." He reminisced on his time as a slave back in Tequila Wolf with Archie for just a moment. He had yet to make any footsteps towards the New World where he promised to meet the man. The thought was devoured by the birth of a red flame of rage. Hungrily it licked at the thoughts of Archie and the image Alphie had in his mind of last seeing the man. It had been nine years and surely without the Marine's name even making a spark in the world his mentor was disappointed in him. Listening to Seiju state he refund his purpose, Alphie would solidify his stance on his vow to meet his mentor Archie in the New World. "And by winning this battle, I'll officially restart my New World Campaign."
As the silver haired swordsman paced his steps towards the Marine, devouring space in alerting amounts, given 3m were in between them, Alphie's guard was raised, but he'd still bare his fangs int he face of danger. Alphie noted the man was still outside his reach of forty some inches, given arm space was a factor, but he'd have to make an entrance to carry out an attack, so he would have placed himself at a disadvantage. Alphie planned to cut the man down with his next stroke and he didn't take thoughts like this lightly. From the moment of suffocation came the sudden burst of speed that seemed to press play on the whole world. The waves crashed, the birds sang, the leaves rustled, and then the sound of sand grains crunching under increased pressure in one's foot raised goosebumps on Alphie's skin again. The sensation of the noise alone, though he wasn't the one grinding the grains, created such an effect, but it also alerted the Marine of foot movement without having to have focused on it.
With the moment of stillness, Alphie had deduced the distance between the two and it was established  he had superior reach. If the man didn't advance forward he was harmless in Alphie's perception of things and with his speedy sword movement he didn't move forward, so Alphie was safe. But the grains of sand said that there was movement, thus causing Alphie to lower his frame in preparation to move, but he wouldn't go backwards.

The positioning of the blades just made a danger zone for the Ensign. He didn't understand why such a tactic was being employed given how harmless it was. Alphie saw no other way to take, but as disrespect with his current state of mind. One blade was aimed at his eye from his previous position, but hadn't the necessary reach, and the other was up towards the higher half of his torso, more so the shoulders. "Stop playing games dammit!" The comment about the Marine's name was lighter fluid on a nearly dead ember and the result was a raging firestorm that was ready to engulf all in its path. Having already ducked in response to the first sword being moved to his face level, his body had torqued over to his left so his right shoulder was directed at Seiju. In unison with the beginning of his dialogue and body positioning, he showed the Ex-Marine true acceleration. Only forty inches of sand was in between the two combatants and Alphie would close such a gap in much less than half a second. Having ducked in response tot he first blade and initiated this charge after the second blade was drawn, he would have been under both edges and out of harms way. His aim was to body slam Seiju, jutting his shoulder into his exposed torso given the minute distance that was between the two of them and the vulnerable positioning of the arms. Should his shoulder tackle into the swordsman's gut succeed, he'd find himself robbed of oxygen from the power of momentum reinforcing the blow. Possibly equally important he'd find himself placed in an aerial position. From Alphie being crouched down and his opponent having superior height and also knowing upward force from a blow to the torso would have a better effect, Alphie's bashing take off would have been angled diagonally. Only a shallow 2m off the ground however, nothing significant altitude wise, but it was significant in also stealing the swordsman's ability to find footing and hopefully sense of balance. Quite the kleptomaniac, Alphie had six meters of travel in his hands, but had chosen to use his unique Shadow Step to only carry him a small distance forward into Seiju and up. The usage of the technique could be classified as used in a spurt. After this spurt, he would have lost momentum, call it the mechanics of the universe, leaving Seiju to sail alone, but Alphie wasn't finished yet. During the quick burst of speed, the Marine switched the position of his weapon, simply rotating it so if he were to lash out when he lashed out, the blunt side would his as opposed tot eh blade. The odd way of holding the weapon was still in use however and it's purpose unveiled itself in a glint of time. Through the clouds of the dawn's sun rise, the sun would glimmer on the blade it flash outwards in the blink of an eye outwards towards the sent foe, prior to him getting too far away to be hit. It was much like the opening strike Seiju had attempted on Alphie, the torqued over quick draw of the blade. The Ensign mimicked such a thing, his left hand closest to the actual blade working as the sheathe holding the blade still, while the right hand was pulling outwards the whole time during Alphie and Seiju's tradeoff of words. This caused a build up of potential energy on the behalf of both hands since they tugged in directions that went against each others will. The left was the one to let go, letting the right hand win the power struggle, releasing the potential energy in the form of a powerful and speedy sword swing. In other words the perfect replication of an Iaido draw.
With the blunt side of the weapon released from Alphie's left side, it would be heading towards Seiju's right should he have been hit by Alphie's shoulder check. Contact of such a shoulder check planned to only be sustained for three quarters of a second, then the blade would come to occupy only half of a second's worth of time. To Alphie's right resided the water's of the ocean, so should the silver haired Ex-Marine be struck, perhaps the chill of the South Blue would convince him to take the spar more seriously. Even should the swordsman have blocked the blow, from the intense velocity generated from Keen Beheading technique, he'd find himself barreling towards the waters from a painful impact to take his mind off a potentially shattered bones from the hit area.

Whilst in the air Alphie would be eyeing Seiju who could be soaring towards the water's at this time. Aiming for his next maneuver with Same-kiri Bocho that was pulled back over his right shoulder, the blade nearly grazed the fabric of the captain's jacket that miraculously retained its position on his shoulders.

Tier 1 Skill Description: Keen Beheading is a technique of Oars Kenjutsu that imitates a quick draw. While usually the weapons used in Oars Kenjutsu have no sheath to allow for such a thing, the user utilizes their own strength to create a makeshift hold or scabbard for their weapon. The hand the weapon will be swung with will be gripping the weapon normally, while the opposite hand would be gripping the weapon as if wielding it in a backwards style. While the seining hand is pulling out as if to swing, the opposite hand pulls in the opposite direction to hold back the swing. Like a tug of war trade off between one's self with the hand holding back the blade's swing giving the weapon no leeway to move, this builds potential energy. Upon the hand fighting against the blade to swing releasing it's grip, the potential energy is then released and it creates a speedy weapon swing on par with that of Iaido through the use of one's own strength and body.

    Tier 1 Skill Name: Backdraft

Tier 1 Skill Description: Using the size and weight of his weapon in junction with his strength, Alphie releases a powerful swing from his sword. While it can easily cleave deeply into someone if not completely through, when the blow is blocked, the defender(s) find themselves sent 3m in the direction the swing was moving in and off balance from the powerful impact. This can be used to position foes in advantageous positions for Alphie like in the air.

    Seiju

    Marines

    Seiju
Seiju had not been making any attempts to mock his opponent's name, nor did he seek to goad a rise out of the young man. The offense taken was understandable but not expected by the old man in the slightest. It being followed up by a grand declaration about a "New World Campaign" was just as much of a surprise to Seiju. The words Alphie spoke were trifles that washed over the Saintly Beast like the whimsical sea breeze. All that mattered to him was the emotion behind them. Anger. A seething spite brought about by hitting a nerve on Alphie's psyche it seemed. The kid was a quick thinker, crafty, and strong. But a flaw in the form of a temper was beginning to show itself. The fires of Alphie's rage were definitely being kept in check by a steady outward appearance, but much like a lid on a pot of boiling water...there were times when that anger overflowed and forced the pot open. This became apparent when the elderly swordsman steadied his sword at Alphie's eye-level. The sudden demand for Seiju to stop playing games revealed all too clearly to the man that this youth had yet to claim an infallible grasp on his emotions.

The shout was followed by a duck in response to Seiju lifting his sword. With no more face in the "line of fire" to strike, Seiju abandoned any plans of using the half step and the thrust he had been about to use. Instead, he needed to react swiftly to Alphie's anger fueled act. It was often wise to take the initiative in battle, but doing so when rage was leading you by the nose was foolish. She is a fickle mistress, rage, and when you let her control you it is hard to predict the outcome. Sometimes that burning passion leads men to victory. But more often it leads them to an early grave. Seiju knew this all too well as he'd seen it countless times during his long career as a marine. Despite his best efforts to prevent the deaths of his men, he couldn't save them from themselves. When young men let go of control over their actions leaving those choices to raw emotion they find themselves in all sorts of trouble.

Seiju's body would no longer be dedicated to the half step forward, so as the boy ducked down and his muscles began to fire in order to propel him into the old man another burst of Extreme Acceleration would carry that target out of the way. In the instant after Alphie began his charge forward, Seiju stepped to the right at speeds slightly faster than what Alphie could manage. It was a bitterly close difference between the two men, but it would earn Seiju the fraction of a second needed to move outside the line of force being drawn in his direction.

Simultaneous to his evasive maneuver, Seiju pivoted to keep facing Alphie. At the same time, his left hand moved to draw the dagger at his waist while the hand wielding the sword came down for a swift one handed cut. The slash was aimed for Alphie's back which would be exposed by this point considering the nature of the boy's forward rush. The final kicker of Seiju's actions would be that his left foot had moved with his body but remained in Alphie's path, extended and held firm to trip the kid up. It would not be easy for him to halt or change his forward momentum now. Human reaction times were only so fast and the boy had advanced with frightening speed. However, Seiju wasn't underestimating the boy so his Tsukima Ken was at the ready, still at waist level, to deal with any sudden counter movements that were made.

Seiju's reactions came swift with Alphie's actions. The normal human wouldn't have been able to react in time, but it seemed that Alphie's opponent didn't fall in with the normals. While he would pivot over to Alphie's left side, the side the Marine's weapon was on, he had put himself in danger's path. Alphie having yet drawn his weapon, he still had a powerful sword swing on deck to release. In addition, the Marine had noticed the movement the Ex-Marine had employed. While speed of reflexes wouldn't let him redirect his dash forward, he still could move his weapon in time to pull off a strike that was courtesy of the momentum he would have. All he had to do was nudge the cleaver a bit more out to his left side as he proceeded forward, but he'd go beyond and shamelessly press it out, to let the blade breath like a fan. With that, Seiju would find the outside of his right arm to across his chest being deeply cut into as Alphie would proceed forward. The damage to the outside of the right arm would be due tot he "L" shape of the blade should it hit. The positioning of their body's basically would let Alphie's sword drag across him should he not move. The full development of the fanning motion wouldn't be able to be complete before he reached Seiju of course, due tot he speed he was moving, but it'd create a danger zone for the samurai, the much was for sure. In addition, with samurai planning to cut Alphie's back after he zoomed by, such actions weren't really possible. Given Alphie had torqued to his left, his front would be facing Seiju as he went by, so his back wasn't really exposed. His left side was however and should Seiju want to cut such a thing, it'd be hard to pull off due to Same-kiri Bocho. Forty inches of blade trailing directly behind the Marine and fanning out more left a bit, made for a nice discouragement as well as offense. The reach of the blade wouldn't guard Alphie directly, but it'd make getting in close proximity to get the cut nigh impossible and if he wanted to cut Alphie that bad, unless he made a highly tactical move, he too would be cut.
Beyond that, Seiju's childish attempt to trip Alphie would fail, simply due to the Marine's aim with his dash. As said, it was aimed slightly up, to drive Seiju into and aerial positioning. Having planned to go 2m up, but an insignificant amount of distance forward out of 6m, Alphie's travel upwards would be brash enough to save him from the schoolyard humiliation tactic.
At the end of the travel from the dash when he ended up 2m in the air, from the fanning out of the blade, he would have turned as well, to turn over his right shoulder, to face Seiju. His weapon would still be on his left side held in the peculiar grip.

    Seiju
    (I reed gud)

Somehow Seiju had mistaken his left for his right and stepped to the side that was most disadvantageous for himself. Senility in old age was a terrifying thing. Upon realizing that he had positioned himself on the side of Alphie's blade rather than his exposed back, the old swordsman had little time to dedicate any thought towards revising his course of action. Reliant entirely upon Sharp Reflexes and a keen instinct for battle, the elderly fighter took immediate action in order to mitigate the damage his blunder would earn him. Once more, a bout of Extreme Acceleration saved Seiju from suffering greater injury than he would have with more sluggish movements. There was no stopping the large blade from cutting into his flesh, but a slight shift backwards accompanied by the arrival of Seiju's Tsukima Ken ensured that it short of a lethal would. The lean back was subtle, but enough to shallow the depth of the forty inch blades intrusion into Seiju's body. Muscles burst into action carrying the short dagger into the edge of Same-Kiri Bocho once it's L shaped edge passed by, pressing against the weapon to prevent it from forcing deeped into Seiju's torso.

Sparks danced from a clash of metals as the clean dagger ground against an edge now coated in the crimson of blood. Seiju's right arm and left arm had been spared from any harm. The former due to being raised above Alphie's upward trajectory, the left thanks to the dagger's interference. But a gash had opened up on the aged fighter's chest that was draining blood at an uncomfortably swift rate. While this had happened, Seiju tried to angle the tip of his longsword inwards toward Alphie for an improvised thrust across the boy's gut as he passed by, but it was an out of position maneuver and lacked the force of a proper full strength blow. It was possibly fast enough to catch the young man as he was rising into the air, but unlikely to deal a puncture wound of much significance.

It was probably the wiser choice to request another halt in the spar so Seiju could stitch up his injury and bandage it for good measure. Seiju would look back on the fight later and realize this, but for now his flip had already been switched into combat mode. The pain from the cut forced his teeth into a grinding clench, but his eyes were still wild and beast-like. He was not about to let the next opportunity slip through his grasp due to a cut that had failed to kill him. Even if it meant opening the wound more and worsening its severity. With an agonized grunt of effort, Seiju pivoted to the left as soon as Same-Kiri Bocho finished it's spark producing kiss with the surface of his Tsukima Ken. While Alphie turned in mid air Seiju approached with an affirming step that re-established Seiju's balanced and grounded footing. The step could have carried him 2m in distance, but Seiju only needed a fraction of that to enter striking range.

The technique, Setsukai, lashed out like a viper's bite, Tsukima Ken aiming to slice an accurate incision into Alphie's heel that would impact in time with the end of Alphie's spin. Being 2m in the air, the targeted body part would be close to Seiju's shoulder level making it an easy task to perform this sweeping stab that came from the outside rather than straight on. Meanwhile, Seiju kept his Chotetsu raised like a barrier between himself and the Same-Kiri Bocho.

Though they were out of desperation and driven on sheer primal instinct alone, rage and impulse, Alphie found his actions bearing fruits. Like such fruits, even the battle hardened skin of an ex-marine parted when the Ensign willed it. Akin to the fangs of man beginning to dig into the succulent skin of a supple slightly over ripened peach, even through his fangs, Basa could feel the precise moment skin gave way from the pressure. It could only be written off as the blade of a swordsman's truly being an extension of himself. Such a thing would provide clarity as to why Basa got a short lived sensation, a wave of jitters, over his body the moment he felt skin break and the natural juice of the fruit that was Seiju quench the thirst of his blade. The relationship between Alphie and Same-kiri Bocho was nothing short of metaphysical. The Ensign could actually perceive such a small detail through such a large weapon if only his bond with Īzasu ran as deep.

The incision across the chest wasn't too deep, the man had saved himself.  Although when the epidermis split and the weapon was allowed to intrude into the body, Alphie felt every detail from the beginning of the drag to its end. To Alphie there was nothing like dipping into the body of another. From there, it was the vibrations, the screaming in the ears, and the presence of harmless heated kisses on his forearm and exposed chest that painted a vivid scene in the Ensign's mind eye. This stimulating imagery rode upon the wave of jitters Alphie got from wetting his blade in human flesh for the first time in a while. It had a hormonal response that was involuntarily instinctive for people that had the interest he did, especially at his inexperienced age. Naturally his body commanded him to secrete adrenaline to power his muscles and allow him to maximize his performance. "Don't lose steam from a tiny cut like that!" His mouth formed a grin after speech during the blades grinding against one another. His senses were completely invested in the battle while the adrenaline washed over his body and drove it to seek out the feeling it had experienced when his he dipped his blade in his opponents flesh. It'd be perfectly reasonable for one to argue that Basa was finding sexual pleasure from the fight, but such a thing wasn't so. He just found combat to be exhilarating, not tepee making and wall-whiting exhilarating, it felt far better than that and such a heightened level of pleasure didn't have those side-effects.
Progressing the scene, the Ensign proceeded to execute his turn over his right shoulder, it was no longer anger leading the assault, but beastial instinct to find pleasure in one's actions. When he would have turned one-hundred and thirty five degrees out of the one-hundred and eighty that composed of his rotation, Basa would have executed his Keen Beheading skill. Same-kiri Bocho was still on his left side, but miraculously the edge wouldn't still be leading the assault. Perhaps it was the honorable warrior in him that had powered through the wave of blood lusting apparitions and made his hands rotate Same-kiri Bocho as to not cause lethal damage should it hit. Such an ode worthy and chilvarous act would have happened subconsciously; prior to Alphie even beginning his turn over his right shoulder. Immediately after the thousand word exchange between he two blades, more precisely. While the language they spoke couldn't be read, a fighter who was in tuned with their weapon could have the tongue they spoke felt in their soul. While it was hard or rather nigh impossible to translate what the words meant in a verbal way, they could be shared with a single eye to eye glance. Each combatant harboring the will of their weapon that was just a reflection of their own will in their eyes. Should Seiju's optics meet those gemstone green circles of Alphie's he'd understand that the Ensign was looking to end the spar by making it apparent he was the victor.
Lashing outwards with velocity on par with Seiju's own when he executed burst of speed, Basa would find the swordsman making an advance, blood seeping out the fresh wound in his chest.  Perhaps the infliction would play a significant role in the next few developments of fight. While it wouldn't drain the man dry, it surely was a noteworthy amount of juice dripping. Despite the wound though, his left hand was busy sailing with his blade in his grip ready to rend flesh. With his step allowing him to enter striking range, he was at least a foot away from the Marine. Being close enough to cut the heel, presumably the back as to render him temporarily lame, he'd have to be closer than usual, due to the anatomy of the body. A precise distance was an unknown factor, but nonetheless he was in a very dangerous zone. With Alphie's swing being birthed with forty-five more degrees to go until his turn saw its end, the nature of the Iaido knock-off attack, and the short distance the behemoth had to travel, the attack would land before Seiju's own. With Alphie's heel being leveled with the opposing swordsman's shoulder, the swing would be appropriately angled as would Alphie's body to allow him to direct his body towards the torso of Seiju, meaning he was slightly tilted in the air like the Earth on its axis. Clean through, 10 o'clock to 4 o'clock in accordance to his own body being the center of the clock, Same-kiri Bocho would cleave outwards in front of him with the presence of the raised blade in Seiju's in mind. Since Alphie was angled and his blade's swing was as well, should Seiju block the blow as it seemed his main weapon was raised to do, he'd be plowed into the sand suffered a bout of concussive force that reflected the power of the swing, but spread throughout his whole body, primarily the skeletal structure. In addition, the angling of the assault would prove to deal with ducking too, since Alphie was angled from an aerially position, cut out to Seiju who was already downwards in his perception, albeit still diagonal. Back to the damage though. The devastation from the ground would wash out like a wave of the ocean on the side of his body furthest from the ground. What made direct contact with the sand, despite it not being compact like concrete, would find its bones fractured and splintered in many areas. Ultimately the swordsman's would be unable to carry on from the damage from that side of his body alone, but the shock the right side of his being could suffer from defending against the blow would also be troublesome. The trauma would work to sandwich his body while it raced to his core, the left side suffering the most.
Seiju had a ways to go to back out should want to avoid the blow fully and not block it, since he was closer than twelve inches to Alphie's person to deliver his serpentine strike. This time things would be different as Alphie took his assault a step beyond what he was doing before. Through the battle, he noticed the man had a thing for sharp twitchy movements, that often lead to him weaseling out of taking full damage from his strikes or damage at all. But when he attacked him earlier, with his pistol and sword, two attacks rather than one, he was successful. Singular strikes weren't the way to beat the man, he needed bait and a catch. That said, promptly after his left hand was released from the handle of Same-kiri Bocho for Keen Beheading, it moved for Īzasu's. In addition to the man's knack for quick single jointed movements, with his arms or legs, he seemed to be able to pull off burst of speed, akin to how Alphie could. Should his feet build him up for such a thing this time, after a burst of speed, he'd find Īzasu's end point hungrily moving to lodge itself into his foot. Such a dart like toss would come with the wakizashi's draw and it wouldn't disrupt the integrity of the Keen Beheading in any way, shape, or form, nor would Alphie draw the blade when his own right arm was in the way. Said arm would be on the other side of his body anyways, so such a thing wasn't bound to happen. Basa would have a clean shot at the man and would take it when stagnancy in his rapid movement was found. Shortly after he'd land safely on the ground for the most part. Should the Ex-Marine have committed to his strike and cut Alphie, the timing would denote that he too would have been struck, by Same-kir Bocho's hacking blow. If that was the case, Alphie would have landed messily and fallen to put his right knee in the sand. The right heel, being the heel targeted by Seiju's strike.

    Tier 1 Skill Cooldown&Duration: 2|Instant

Tier 1 Skill Type: Melee Weaponry
Tier 1 Skill Range: Length of Weapon
    Tier 1 Skill Cooldown&Duration: 2|Instant
Tier 1 Skill Description: Using the size and weight of his weapon in junction with his strength, Alphie releases a powerful swing from his sword. While it can easily cleave deeply into someone if not completely through, when the blow is blocked, the defender(s) find themselves sent 3m in the direction the swing was moving in and off balance from the powerful impact. This can be used to position foes in advantageous positions for Alphie like in the air.

    Seiju

    Marines
    Marines

    Seiju
Flying into the jaws of a beast. Perhaps it seemed as if Seiju was the one that statement could be attributed to, however it was Alphie whom had been doing so all along. The pillar of metal known as Same-Kiri Bocho was a formidable weapon and the wielder was worthy of its power. However there was a difference between the two fighters. A gap which could not be closed by the quality of one's weapon. The boy fought to win, driven by a smouldering ember of anger. Yet the old man was using a different motivation to encourage his body towards victory. Despite the nature of the bout being a simple spar, Seiju fought to defeat his opponent. His willingness to sacrifice his body for the sake of reaching this goal allowed the silver haired fighter to cast his inhibitions to the wind. While there was no intent to kill, a killing intent seeped from Seiju all the same. His instincts as a "beast" leading the ebb and flow of his actions. The primal murderous aura kept in check only by the heart of a saint which would stay Seiju's blade before a true killing blow could take place.

There was no second thought, nor the time to have one, as Seiju committed fully to his disabling strike to Alphie's heel. He endeavored to complete the act no matter the consequences that came. From Alphie's perspective it might have appeared as if madness had taken the man. Senile in his old age perhaps? What kind of sane man would attempt to take the brunt of that massive blade on at full force? Fear towards facing a momentum filled blow like this found no place in the elderly man's heart. Nor did the seed of doubt find root in his mind. His limbs worked independently of each other to accomplish a single task. To take Alphie down with a decisive effort. The left arm did its duty and lashed out striking the heel as planned. The right arm had a much more difficult challenge ahead of it however.

As Same-Kiri Bocho came down with all the force its master had generated, Seiju's sword shifted with perfect Alignment to catch the incoming attack. Alphie had taken insurance to ensure the swordsman didn't slip away and sent a side arm flying into Seiju's foot with fearsome accuracy mere fractions of a second before the impact. That wakizashi would find it's mark beautifully and pierced into Seiju's flesh pinning his appendage to the beach sand. But this did nothing to change the old man's stubborn attempt to handle the weight and might of Alphie's oversized cleaver. The alignment Seiju had chosen was a raised block to meet the strike a bit less than a full arm's reach away from his own body. From Seiju's perspective the right or skyward side of his weapon was used to take the hit. The nature of Seiju's guard used leverage and lines of force to prevent the powerful attack from blowing his guard aside. Same-Kiri Bocho would be caught expertly at the base of the sword's blade just past the guard.

With the gigantic swords impact, Seiju felt the force ring through his arm and immediately begin sending it back towards his body against its will. However, Seiju denied that force the opportunity to ring throughout his whole body and skeleton. Instead he used a fluid motion changing the block's nature into a sliding parry. He shifted his arm and the angle of the force he was putting behind it so he was pushing against the "side" of the weapon's trajectory rather than challenging it's power head on. The old man shifted his body at the same time and ducked his head forward a little, arching his back, as he let his own sword lay across himsel. The far end end of Chotetsu rested on his left shoulder as a brace so the entire weapon would act as a guide for Same-Kiri Bocho's new trajectory. The entire muscular structure of Seiju's body aside from his left arm would be dedicated to the act of keeping the line of force behind Alphie's attack redirected. Seiju attempted to alter the very angle of the attack by force using spatial awareness and leverage.

The old man's legs bent as every fiber in his body flexed and blood burst from the wound at his chest and foot in response to his brain demanding the muscles around them work overtime despite the poor conditions. Blooms of crimson spotted the sand and a roaring grunt of effort echoed across the beach. Same-Kiri Bocho finally slid off the end of Seiju's sword and caused a blast of sand to fly into the air on his left side due to the kenatsu of the strike. Once the force pressing down on Seiju was gone, his body immediately rose, the right arm most of all. Much like how Alphie had built up potential energy with his iaido inspired skill, Seiju's right arm had gathered plenty of its own and released it all in a lightning fast arc that rose only to sharply turn downwards aiming to cut into Alphie's neck on Seiju's right side.

The old man would stop this cut before it could do any serious harm. The blade's edge coming to a halt a mere millimeter before it could kiss the boy's neck as he landed. Seiju's own side arm which had clipped Alphie's heel as planned was retracted and then positioned with its twin tips set to poke Alphie's right arm should he try to execute a desperation attack. The Tsukima Ken was also ready to strike for Alphie's neck instead should the left arm of Seiju's opponent seek to interfere with the check mate slash. Would everything come to this point, Seiju would be breathing heavily showing signs of his exhaustion. Simply standing before the kneeling Alphie. However a kind smile would replace the wild warrior's face he had worn just moments ago.

Regardless of whether or not Alphie found a way to counter Seiju's final play or succumbed to the old man's gambit, the swordsman would end the battle in the following manner.

"Well done kid..." Seiju would say between pants. "Alphie isn't such a bad warrior's name after all. You're pretty good. We'll call this...your...win..." The words came out honest and true followed by a blacking out as Seiju's grip on his weapons loosened and he fell backwards onto the beach. The blood loss had gotten to the geezer faster than it would most young men. Consciousness left him and he fell into the sweet embrace of sleep, his right foot only remaining grounded due to the blade that impaled it and kept it so. There was a content look upon the beaten man's face despite the fact that his opponent had nary a scratch on him while his own wounds were fairly significant. The state of the two fighters was justification enough for Seiju to call it Alphie's win even if his last maneuver had been pulled off successfully.  It hadn't mattered to Seiju who won or lost the spar from the start. Enjoying the clash had been its own reward.

Tier 1 Skill Description: A simple skill in which the practitioner moves their weapon, object, or hand into position at max speed. Using keen dexterity the swordsman aligns his weapon/object/hand perfectly with an incoming strike to meet it head on with a stable guard that is not easily blow away even by heavy weapons from peers/skills of equal tier. This skill can be performed in mid air or underwater, but doing so loses the stability of they guard allowing the user to still be blown away by powerful strikes.

god bless the man i put the sights over

His blow was fending off with some tricky swordplay and sent his blade crashing down on the man's left side sending sand everywhere. Closing his eyes as was the natural response to the upheaval of sand, while he could easily direct the blade horizontally back to his left to cleave the man in half, while he did whatever else with his blades, Alphie showed self control and let the man scrape up however much dignity he could find in the loss. Chest dripping like the gapping maw of a hell hound, sand stained red from a messy exertion of effort, a normal human would have collapsed from blood loss by now, but alas people like him and Alphie weren't normal humans. Taking the stinging blow to heel, not the tendon or any other really special muscle tissue, just the heel, Alphie was on his way downwards. Releasing his grip on Same-kiri Bocho, he landed messily because of the shallow wound on his heel. He had the mind to grab Īzasu out the man's foot and drag it straight up his body for cutting his boots, to cut his heel, but Alphie could strangely sense that the spar had reached its climax. Without response to the desperation act, Alphie was spared from prolonging the spar and risking getting stabbed at once more.
Still with a bit flames of anger burning, Alphie listened to the man, Seiju, call the match his, but in Alphie's eyes the match being his should have been more clear than this. It was called off with both participants having consciousness and while the samurai was badly battered, gash across the chest that'll likely scar, wakizashi in the foot, and bullet wound grazing the shoulder, while Alphie only had a cut on the heel.
With the ex-marines words, he fell back unconscious, giving Alphie a sense of satisfaction when he saw the sight. Retrieving his things, he thought back on when he announced this being the start of his New World Campaign. "This is just the first of many." He said as he awkwardly strode off with leaving a trail of red behind him from the cut on his foot.
