Flashdance
Nicholas leaned over his work bench, sitting at one side of his room. Oddly enough, even though workbench seemed to blend in with the rest of his room, which seemed just about perfect for someone as flashy and obsessed with style as Nicholas was. Hell, if pirating didn't work out, he could get a job as an interior decorator.

But right now, the pirate had work to do. Sitting on the bench in front of him were two objects. One was a dial, a water dial to be exact. The other was a bow. More importantly, it was his captain's bow. When he had first joined the crew, he and Linnea had spoken about him using his dial expertise to combine dials with weaponry, and she wanted him to mix this dial with her bow, something about putting poison on her arrows. Shouldn't be too hard. Nicholas had some experience in mixing dials with objects (nothing that he really kept though), but this was his first major project. He wanted it to not only work, but for it to be stylish as well.

He stared at the two objects in complete silence, working over in his mind how he was going to do this. This was like art, it had to be done just so. Sure, he could slap the dial on where it needed to go and call it done, but there was no way in hell he could sleep at night knowing he had done such a shoddy job for her.

"Ok," he murmured quietly to himself, "I think I've got this."

He reached down and began to work. The most important thing was the dial itself. Oe would find it odd that amongst Nicholas' equipment were artist's tools, but again, Nicholas was all about style. Taking great care not to accidentally damage the dial, he began to sand it down, smoothing out the shell, altering it's shape. He dyed it's surface to match the tone of wood of the bow, until one would almost think it was made out of wood, rather than the shell from the sky it actually was. Once he was satisfied with the dial's shape, he began to tweak its function. Water dials were designed to hold and release large quantities of water, but It was simply needed to apply venom to arrows. He altered the dial so that it would release the fluid in small amounts, enough to cover the arrow without spilling any excess.

Then came the combining itself. Mixing a dial with wood was something he hadn't done before, but it shouldn't be too hard. He carved out a small section in the upper side of the bow to fit the dial in snugly, fixing it into the bow's fram. Then, with some wood putty and some more dying, he was able to blend the new attachment in with the rest of the weapon. By the end, the dial simply looked like a bulge that was part of the natural wood, rather than something added on.

He looked down at his creation with satisfaction. "I can safely say," Nicholas spoke to himself, pride in his voice, "That I am a damn genius." He then turned and headed to the door. "Captain!" he called out as he walked out of the room, "Your bow is ready!"

WORDS: ??? | TAG: @Uroboros | NOTES: ???

Linnea was slowly pacing back and forth with a flustered blush on her face and her arms crossed under and over her chest... Someone who might ever seen an average girl's reaction to being caught naked might notice the same one on Linnea: While the Kuja warrior was at ease with her body and didn't flinch from wearing practical, revealing clothing (or even full on nakedness), she only felt truly nude when she found herself unarmed like this. Even if it was for a good cause. In any other circumstance she'd have already torn down some wood and made herself a makeshift bow and arrow. Indeed, another detail one might notice on Linnea was the absence of her usual bow, even if her quiver was still there...

Nicky had agreed to install a dial on her bow, and after picking out a desired effect - from the large list of Dials her navigator provided her with - and giving him the money to procure the rare item, now came the time for the actual upgrade. It required parting with a weapon she'd spent so much time with it might as well be a part of her... And it showed. Some was very obviously bothering her even through the normally calm look she always had on her face was all but gone. It was pretty understandable after all, mastering this weapon was what allowed her to blossom from a shy and insecure young girl to a determined huntress, capable of carving her own path in this world, come what may. Fortunately for her, her Dial Wizard didn't keep her waiting for long, and soon enough had finally come out of his workshop... And much to her joy, he had not only seamlessly attached the Dial to the wooden framework, but also gone the extra mile of painting it to match the wooden grip:

"Wow, Nicky...", spoke the amazed captain, gripping the bow in her hand and loving how it hardly seemed any heavier. Tracing her fingers over the merged framework, she praised the navigator, hardly able to take her eyes off her bow, "...This is impressive!", she clicked the button on the grip and an empty *hiss* whispered from the tip. So that was what released the venom. Now if only she could find some snakes and a scientist to destile their venom... Finally she grinned at Nicky, "Thanks a lot!", before suddenly taking aim at a wooden wall far off in the distance, quickly drawing and shooting an arrow.

Still as accurate as ever... Linnea headed out of the ship to go collect the arrow, before heading out into the wilderness for further testing...
