Task Name: Strategic removal
Tier: T3
NPC or PC: PC
Location: Yotsuba Island
Crew, Team, or Personal: Personal
Description: Hearing of the rampant corruption in Yotsuba Island, you decide to put a stop to it, one way or another. If you can't stop it, you'll at least slow it down... You'll find the Marines under attack by pirates, facilitating your task to infiltrate it. Break into the Governor's house and kidnap him, defeating his bodyguards in the process. Afterwards, use his Den Den Mushi to demand a ransom and the release of all crucified prisoners. It's up to you whether to let him go or kill him, but you'll still have to fight a platoon of Marines to get to your ship and retreat.
Enemy Details: 7 T1 bodyguards, 2 T2 Bodyguards, 1 T3 beefy bodyguard. Afterwards, 10 T0 Marines, led by 2 T2 and 1 T3.
Boss: No

The 153rd Marine division... Linnea gritted her teeth at the mere thought of them. Melissa's words back on Illusia added up to what she had seen thus far, and she had no doubts concerning the truth of that statement. She had heard plenty about those "punishments" for measly crimes as the main reason why the Marines were being so successful on that Island. This success was one of the main reasons why she didn't stay too long on Yotsuba, but now the game had changed. The first time she came to this island - back when she first arrived in the south Blue - she had little to no idea of the extent of corruption that went on, how they were even willing to inflict such a cruel punishment on a child. The one rule even a "criminal" like Linnea wouldn't break (Never to hurt children) was apparently regularly broken in this wicked place, and she couldn't live with herself if she allowed that to slide. If nobody would keep the Marines in check, then it was up to the Pirates to do so... How sad was that concept? The weather was nasty and cloudy, with a high likelyhood of rain, all in all Linnea was really glad to have finally reached land before the storm came. Her ship was good enough to weather the storm when it came, and a lot more effective at sailing through it if she went against the wind, hopefully she'd be able to use to escape...

As she slowly approached the docks, she didn't even swap her sails, expecting to need the faster square sails for the quickest exit she could... Anchoring and tying the ship to the nearest empty space at the docks, Linnea quickly draped a cloak over her shoulders and pulled up her hood. She actually enjoyed dark and cloudy days like these, with a storm looming over her head. Nobody complained if her carried herself around in such a manner... It was good that Melissa was also taking care of causing mayhem on this island... While she did her own thing, Linnea would be doing hers. But what these Marines were doing on this island was completely unacceptable; somebody had to stop them lest they start thinking they could get away with it. Fortunately, she had a plan. She had learned enough to know exactly where she might find this Island's Governor. He was the one who financed the Marines and supported their brutal, corrupt policies for whatever reason. She couldn't care less of what kind of motives he might have but while the bulk of the marines were distracted by the flashy Pirate attack, she would use that moment to strike...

For that reason, Linnea approached this island absent a Jolly Roger, completely indistinguishable from any other ship. She had scouted out the island last time she was here, and knew exactly where the Governor of Shells' Town resided. With the island currently under attack by other Pirates, the normally heavily patrolled town was rather easy to move around in. Linnea mostly kept to alleys and less crowded streets, humouring her instinct not to draw too much attention to herself... Whatever Melissa and other pirates might be doing was certainly working, either that or the Marines also didn't want to get caught outside in the oncoming storm. But the crucified prisioners - many undeserving of the inhumane conditions they were kept in - wouldn't be spared of that misfortune.

"Trust a governor to always live in the fanciest building...", she thought to herself, after having climbed onto the rooftops and chosen that path to traverse.

The governor's mansion had a heavily guarded entrance, but the surrounding fences not nearly as much... Her keen eyes effortlessly scouted her surroundings, and found how in such a large courtyard, it would be really hard to get a real idea. Her Kenbunshoku Haki was by now much stronger than it had once been, and with it she could scan as far as roughly fifty meters, more than enough to get a good look inside the whole house once she got close enoigh to look around. The problem there was finding a way in... But even then it didn't matter if that way in was loud, since once she was inside she'd still have the advantage of knowing exactly where all the enemies were, and would do what she did best: Striking only when the time is right. She quickly leapt from the nearest roof onto a tall tree when nobody was around, and from there dropped onto the garden... First part of the plan was complete... Now to scout out the mansion. Linnea quickly picked up the bow and readied an arrow, taking aim at one of the guards patrolling outside. From what she saw it looked as if they had five guards outside, two at the entrance, then four more patrolling each side of the garden. Wasting not a single moment, Linnea readied an arrow and took aim at that guard, timing her attack with the moment all the others would be furthest away. An steel tipped arrow flew and lodged itself in that guy's chest, knocking him hard onto the ground, squirming helplessly but absent the energy to scream for help...

But what Linnea did next knocked him unsconscious and he'd probably die soon enough: Stepping next to his body, she grabbed the arrow and yanked it loose, further widening the wound thanks to the sharp snapped on her steel tipped arrow. His aura was fading fast but who knows, maybe one of his friends would find him in time. For now, one down. Ideally she should take all of them out, and then hide the bodies. With that in mind, she dragged this one under some shrubs, they wouldn't find him in a while... As for the next two, she wasn't nearly as kind. At this distance, a slight miscalculation and her enemies would still cry for help, so she shot to kill without hesitation, timing her arrows for when their backs were turned. After that she retrieved the arrow from the guard slain in the backyard before looking around for a way in.

After this, only two guards were left... the sentinel and the entrance, and the guard opposite the side from where she entered. The three guards she took down would notice the others soon enough and so she had to make haste. Quickly scouting around and inside the mansion, she could see several auras inside the place. Few of them actually had strength large enough to presumably belong to a fighter, and only one of them could belong to a man such as a governor: Linnea naturally looked for the single person around whom all the others just scurried around, not to mention the one around whom the stronger auras stood. Kenbunshoku Haki wasn't as effective to give her a perfectly clear idea of the layout inside the mansion, but it gave her a good enough idea to get closer, and it would work even better once inside... She'd get a better look once she was exploring it, one way or another.

Plus it was starting to rain too; Linnea had to hurry and head inside the house before she'd be completely soaked and leaving a trail wherever she went. Quickly locating the part of the house with the least people around, she cracked the window open with a quick elbow to the hinge... She managed to do this stealthily enough and with a good enough timing that nobody went out of their way to check, probably assuming it was just the wind... This cover wouldn't last for long, but it would help... Steering clear of passerby's wasn't that hard since she could see them all approaching her from forty meters away, more than enough to have time to hide as needed, and slowly climb up the stairs all the way up to the second floor, where right past the corner she could spot two of the stronger Auras from last time. Linnea still had the element of surprise, but when she fired, she'd have lost it. Hell, the moment she peeked outside to aim, she'd have a split second to fire lest the guards react.

Time to show them the real power of her new bow, Concetta... Grabbing two arrows, she nocked one on either side of the bow and peeked out. They saw her, but they didn't react fast enough. By the time they pulled out their guns the arrows had caught them in the chest and incapacitated them. But then was her turn. Wasting not a single moment, the remaining enemy shot at her through the wall with a rifle, giving the precognitive Haki wielding archer very little time to react. She desperately ducked down behind the sculpture in front of her, but even that wasn't enough to protect her from the stone shrapnel who struck her in the head:

"GET READY TO DIE LITTLE ARCHER!!", tauned the burly bodyguard

Taking hostages was only as effective as the importance of the hostage she took. Doing it with innocents was as cruel as it was fruitless, as the callous higher ups would treat their lives as expendable to catch a more valuable criminal by herself. But if she took the Governor, then the man himself would order his underlings to abide by her commands. That was her plan anyways, but only an idiot would assume they'd just be able to waltz in and abduct the most important man in the city and one of the most important on the whole island, even under the cover of a storm and with most of the Marines busy elsewhere. It would still be hard, and Linnea expected that...

Yet this bodyguard... He was predictably strong, and making the whole thing a lot harder for her. The door had by now been swung open, but and fortunately the Governor had no way out as his bodyguard did the best thing he could: Stall. Unlike them, Linnea didn't have the luxury of time; the longer she hung around here, the more likely she was to have to fight at the mansion and fail her plan. Knowing that she tried to peek out, promptly baiting her foe to fire... And once that happened, she got moving. Peeking out once the bullet breezed past her, she drew an arrow and shot it at the man, which he obviously rolled aside to dodge. But this was only a feint. As the man dodged, she had already nocked another arrow - a special, Rebounding shot - and let it loose aiming at a nearby statue behind the bodyguard. After he stood up to shoot at her, he was surprised by the rebounding arrow catching right in the nap, piercing his spine and paralyzing him permanently, if he didn't die outright. But Linnea wasn't exactly in the clear after this, gasping as she felt a sharp pain in her gut and her head felt woozy, she grasped it and found a bleeding bullet wound in her abdomen... Tch... She got sloppy... Trying to conserve her stamina for the task ahead cost her as much as the naivite of not killing the guy outright with a stronger skill.

It didn't seem to pierce any vital organ, but she had to patch this up as soon as possible. Slinging the bow onto her back, she rushed into the room, grabbed the cowering governor, and dropped him off the window. The man screamed and pleaded for his life but there was no use, Linnea wasn't set on killing him. She had noticed thick shrubs under this window and dropped the man in a way they'd break is fall. It would hurt like hell, but probably not break anything... She followed soon after, hanging herself off the window and then dropping. As she did so, she grabbed the man by the scruff of his collar and glared at him with cold, menacing eyes:

"I don't intend to kill you.", she told the Governor, "I have nothing to gain from your death. But if you do not cooperate, I'll have to cut my losses. That means kill you, and then go on my way."

Still cowering, he could do nothing but nod frantically as Linnea moved onto the next stage: The exit part... She had another plan for that, involving a her bow and her Haki... Running into the fence with her bow imbued with Haki, she'd easily break down that part and vanish before anyone realized what happened, and that was exactly what she did, breathing heavily as she used her Haki bow like a battering ram, she pried open a path through the fence while pulling the governor behind her so his friends wouldn't risk shooting...

This wasn't so hard... She had gagged the Governor with a piece of his own outfit the moment she slipped out of the mansion and into the alleyways, knowing she wouldn't be detected anytime soon. For the next stage of her plan, she needed a tall hideout with a good enough view of the Marine base where they kept the chained prisioners, as well as the governor's mansion; thanks to her Haki it was rather easy to find herself an appropriate location... A tall, abandoned four story building had enough room for her to put her plan into action... It looked delerict and not really stable, which explained why nobody seemed comfortable with hiding there from the storm. It was mostly deserted. Pulling the Governor there was rather difficult, he seemed genuinely afraid of stepping in there, and he dragged his foot more and more the higher Linnea reached: "Behave and do what I tell you, and you'll be out in no time.", she commented plain and resolutely.

From then on things became easier... The governor still had his Den Den Mushi, and Linnea's request of 1 Billion Beli was a small price to pay for his freedom. While she wrapped her injured torso in bandages, ue promptly called his home and ordered the amount of money packed into a briefcase and brought to the plaza a few blocks away from the marine base. His men hesistated, Linnea could hear it through her black Den Den Mushi; they wanted to call the marines to go get him, and the fact that Linnea was hearing every word made him panic, sweat copiously dipping off his forehead: "BRING THE MONEY OR I'LL HAVE YOU ALL CHAINED AND WHIPPED!!", he roared angrily, putting every bit of his authority into completing the pirate's demand.

"And that's the other thing.", Linnea commented coldly, "Now you're gonna call the marines, and have them free all the crucufied prisioners."

The man gasped at this question, and was met with even more resistance from the Marines as he called their commander and passed on Linnea's demands. She was hearing everything through the Den Den Mushi, and since the man was getting nowhere, she was pretty sure they were just stalling. With an exasperated sigh, Linnea grabbed the Den Den Mushi from his hand, "My demands are simple. I want all prisoners chained up freed and given a battleship, and 1 Billion Beli for myself."

"How do we know you won't just kill him?!", asked the uneasy commander

Linnea already had the answer ready for this; so it was an automatic response that sent a chill down the Marine and Governor's spine alike. They wouldn't dare defy her afterwards, and the coldly resolute tone from the huntress only assured it further: "You don't.", she stated coldly, and the Governor's frightened scream only added to her ploy, "But if you don't do as I tell you, he'll just die right now."

Of course, she had no intention of recieving the money in the assigned drop spot, not after having called the Marines... After she recieved confirmation, she'd move to scout out the location and intercept the carrier. Waiting to pounce on the kidnapper when she came to collect the money was not only the smart but also the obvious thing to do, and it would take someone really stupid not so see it coming. Since the Governor would paying the ransom money from his own pocket, the mission was as easy as getting him to say where would they be withdrawing it from, antecipating the transfer. She planned everything accounting for the Island's defender's being outmanned yet unwilling to let their Governor die, and so far it was all going according to plan, except for that bleeding bullet wound in her gut... She grit her teeth, trying to stave off the pain for a while longer... She was so close now...

After this, Linnea waited... Judging by the time the Governor's men were meant to take the money, she shouldn't have to wait more than fifteen minutes, and that time was more than enough to ensure the prisioners chained in the crosses outside - in the rain - were finally freed from their inhuman captivity. One part of her job was done, but the next one was still underway. With this done, she broke the transmitter off the Governor's Den Den Mushi - leaving him unable to call for help - and headed out, casually leaving him to his own devices. She had what she came for after all...

With her Haki, locating where the money carrier would be passing by wasn't too hard, and he gave up the briefcase quite readily when Linnea sprung in front of him with her bow primed. A quick inspection proved it was indeed filled with the amount she requested, but she wasn't here to keep it all to herself. She let  a good deal of that money by the doors of people's homes, and any other places sheltered from the rain. Some folks were gonna be happy men or women in the morning, and that suited her just fine.

But then she realized her plan wouldn't be nearly as easy... As soon as the governor was seen outside the Marines grouped at the park got moving to intercept the the prisioners. Scoffing, she realize she was gonna have to stop them. Her goal was clear and so was her path, and with an ominous heavy rain cloaking her presence, she pressed on with effort, keeping her hood shielding her eyes at all times. She wouldn't have to take down every marine, and she didn't have that luxury either... Taking down three or four should stall them long enough: All she needed was to punish those that tried to press forth, "I can see you all...", she thought to herself, glimpsing the faint silhouette and and hearing running boots splashing the wet pavement... Setting the briefcase aside and quickly loading three arrows, she dished out the first strike: A trident attack, knocking three Marines to the curb with three simultanous sneak attacks. They took cover immediately and rained down aimless supressing fire, and Lin promptly hid. The prisioners were almost at the docks, where they could easily take the marine ship or steal something else. They should be able to get there before longest range Haki ran out

There was another aura wandering around, but it wouldn't get in her way, not in the way of her plan... Taking a deep breath, she nocked another arrow, awaited a smaller hail of bullets, the peeked her head out. Once more she shot her arrow right on target, just as her Haki started to run out... And the other guy still hadn't arrived; good. Yet at this final moment, the one final sprint on her Anarchic marathon, things didn't go as she planned as she ran into something hard, knocking her flat on the ground. Intercepted by the final Marine, that captain she had wound up missing once she ran out of Haki. He must have ran to his comrades at the end or perhaps been informed by his men, but there was nothing to gain from wondering about it... Rain flowed down from her head and body, and she glared into his focused, blazing eyes in start contrast to her cold, dead calm. Priming his gun on her, he ordered, "Don't move!"

She had no choice but to do as he spoke, dropping her bow and slowly standing up, wiping the blood trailing from the corner of her lip and raising her hands above her heard. The thundering clothesline nearly broke her jaw, and gave her no opening to escape, forcing Linnea to pull off one final gambit, struggling to make the best of her weakened body... Activating her Haki one last time, she dashed towards the Marine with a deafening War shout, gritting her teeth as a bullet bounced off her chest as she covered her torso with Jet Black, armament Haki. But it wasn't even the only one: She used the hands behind her head to grab an arrow, coat it with Haki, and stab it into the Marine Captain's nec, watching the life fade from his eyes. She spit out more blood as did, her lips and jaw still hurt from the attack.

The briefcase was incredibly hard to carry now... But for all the damage she took, the result had been worth it. Once she got close enough, her crew could use the cannons for covering fire. Soon she spotted the Melusine, and with the coast clear, she walked the plank and sailed off...

Total, took down 3 T1 bodyguards, 2 T2, 1 T3; 4 T0 Marines, 1 T3

[EXIT]
