"I'm still afraid I'd loos myself in it..."Thought Locke, though the captains words were reassuring...

Event though she spun quickly like a drill as she dived down, she could tell that Linnea was worried, and to be true, Locke was also worried she'd hurt her friend... Luckily though, Linnea seamed to put up her own Armament Haki and reduce the force of the attack considerably...

But Locke continued going, not of her own accord. She started breaking of shards of the captain's ice body off, before being redirected to the ground with a resulting CRACK!!!

Locke was dizzy, more dizzy than she was ever before in her life... "Oh, what happened?" she asked as she slowly stood up and stumbled... Her hands hurt, and after her vision stabilized, she knew why.

Her fans were almost 6 inches in the stonework of the floor, the cloth wasn't even ripped, but they were stuck, almost to the fact that she couldn't get them out. "Great..." thought Locke as she pulls on her weapons... These weren't gonna get out with only one person pulling on them.

"Would you mind helping?" asked Locke, sheepishly... But to Locke, there was a look in Linnea's eyes that showed a desire to fight even more... That started to scare her.

That confirmed it... Locke truly was afraid of power, afraid she might lose herself in it in her own words. Linnea felt that no amount of philosophy would change her mindset completely, but instead she hoped Locke may come to learn a better way to look at power through their travels with them. The girl's beautiful yet efficient fighting style was promising and filled with potential and no way Linnea could stand seeing her stunt her own growth. In her mind, people didn't lose themselves because of their power; power just made it harder for others to rein them back in. Hopefully Locke would come to see this inn time, but once more it wasn't something Linnea could actually teach her... She'd have to figure it out herself.

For now, the Archer was more than ready to continue their little sparring session and see what else Locke might have to show her. But then something happened... Something that might actually cost Locke a great deal were it to happen in a real fight, "That was an impressive attack, Locke.", she praised, smiling with wide eyed astonishment, "But, be careful with that technique... If that happens in a real fight, it could cost you too much to be worthwile.", she admonished nonetheless.

As the heat of battle died down, Linnea gradually started yearning for a little pause to tend to her wounds instead of simply fighting more - thus aquiring even more wounds - so she opted to go help the girl pull her fan out of the ground. She walk up to her and grabbed the fan as well, standing next to the girl as sweat dripped down her forehead and onto the crushed ground below, and her cold, narrow gaze was finally turned towards the trapped fan.

"Alright... Let's pull on three: One, two... Three!!", and with this word, she gritted her teeth and flexed her muscles, placing one foot next to the weapon and pulling simultaneously with Locke.

If this worked, Lin would finally take a deep breath and slump down next to a wall, resting with a finally relaxed look on her face... They had both earned this break.

I think I spun a bit too fast... Locke admits as she regained her balance "I never had the time or the area available to train that skill.... In fact that's the first time I used it in practice." It was a skill she thought of once when watching a cork screw at work, and it stayed in her mind ever since then.

Yeah, that would be disastrous... Hopefully you'll help me get that fixed before I need to rely on it. Locke thinks as Linnea gave her two cents on the attack... It would be really bad in this case.

"Alright... Let's pull on three: One, two... Three!!"
Said the blond, and as Locke pulled on the separate fan she grabbed, beads of sweat started to form... And after what seamed like minutes of pulling, each fan loosened and came out only a second apart.

"Good work Linnea! Now let's get that cut I caused bandaged, shall we?" Locke may not be a doctor, but living through as many scrapes, bruises, cuts, burns, and even a broken bone as she had in her childhood, she was forced to sit through a basic first aid class... And she hasn't regretted it since.

"I know I had a bandage around here somewhere..." She thought out loud as she looks through the little bit of supplies that she brought with her.... "Knife? No... Why do I even have these maple cookies in here?..... Locke says as she pulls out a bag of recently baked maple cookies. "You want one, or a few?"... She finally found the bandage that she was talking about before Linnea could reply and hands it over to the captain.

"You're headed in the right direction then! Keep training like that, and I've no doubt you'll become incredibly strong soon enough.", Linnea encouraged her friendly blacksmith, even if the girl probably excelled at making weapons instead of using them, being able to do both was a huge asset; after all, who to best put her new weapons to teh practive than the one who forged them? The girl expressed her hope that her Captain would help her imporve those techniques further, which the archer immediately agreed to do, with a faintly flattered blush at hearing her input valued so, "Of course...! That's what friends do, right?!"

Soon her gaze was focused entirely on the weapons lodged in the ground in front of them. Pulling our the fans wasn't nearly as hard with two people on the job, and before long there was barely any evidence left of her accident, even if there was still plenty of traces of the preceding battle. Linnea disliked destroying sights other people might come here to see, so she was glad they didn't destroy much more, but even then she was impressed at the destruction. When she first brought Locke onto their crew, she didn't know the girl could even hold her own in combat. It was a positive surprise if any, and she was glad to have her at her side; now seeing her in a whole new light. Plus her talent with Haki was nothing shabby either... She used that power with the same proficiency she'd expect of a natural, a Kuja warrior.

"Thanks...", she smiled appreciatingly as she sat down and the girl tended to her wound; it wasn't too big and the woman's own cold had a way of stopping the bleeding. Her eyes visibly brightened at the sight of cookies, the sweet scent being enough to make her stomach growl slightly. Shy and embarassed, she blushed and looked away, but still managed a soft smile as she accepted and ate them, "Did you bake these...? They're delicious!"

Maybe it was just the hunger talking - a training session will do that to you - but she couldn't help wonder if Locke didn't have yet another hidden talent hidden under her sleeve.

The praise coming from Linnea was making Locke blush, but not out of the same type of pure embarrassment, sure there was some embarrassment in there, but it was mostly pride that had started the blush this time.

"Great!, I'll be looking forward to our next session... Only next time I'm not gonna use Haki to augment my Sky-born Strike, and see how powerful it is then." Locke discussed with her captain... Strangely enough once the training battle had stopped, peace returned, birds and other the other noises that made up the islets ambiance came from their holes and started their lives again.

A quick, somewhat tight, wrapping of a hand later, and Linnea's hand should have no chance of infection now, but the cold that Linnea's body exudes had already started to freeze the blood. I'm glad I dont have to worry about you getting too badly cut then."

She couldn't help but blush at the way Linnea complemented her cookies "Yeah, but it's my mothers recipe... Most of what I learned about cooking was from her, the rest of it was trial and error... I'm no professional chef though, and I never will be if I'm to work on my blacksmithing."

After taking one of the cookies for herself, Locke starts to try and push her Haki towards a singular aura, Linnea, and tries to make her feel like someone was watching. "I still need some practice after all." she thinks, biting into the cookie and remembering her mother... She was sure that her mother would have her letter by now, and probably freaked out over it...

"Ah, home." she unknowingly remarks as a smile creeps along her face.

She nodded in agreement at her idea of augmenting her sky attack with Haki, actually surprised she hadn't already done so to unleash that level of destruction. It would not only empower her weapons but protect them against the recoil that would usually break one such weapon... Still, Locke had only used the basest level of Haki... Just how much stronger would she grow when she perfected the stronger, more advanced versions? Linnea couldn't wait to see it, having been completely and utterly mesmerized by the girl's elegant fighting style and wishing to see more of it as if it were a form of fine art. In a way, Linnea likely regarded it as such, having come from a martial culture and all.

Her cookies however, were something else entirely. Linnea knew she had recruited a multi talented girl after seeing her fighting, but she had absolutely no idea of just how right she was. Aside from being a blacksmith, she could fight, she could apply first aid, and she could cook. She was surprised the girl hadn't gone sailing on her own before, she had just about all the necessary skills to survive out in the ocean... Well, she

probably didn't know how to sail a ship, but then again she could very well not yet have had a chance to do display one such skill. The cookies she

made were

"Give my regards to your mother when you next see her; I haven't had cookies this good since i left Amazon Lily...", perhaps it was just the nostalgia, but of all places she'd lived since then, she still loved her home the best. She found herself staring up, longing for the day she'd go back there, "Yeah..."

What about Locke's home? Now that she thought about it, the greenette had never discussed her hometown that much, especially for someone who obviously missed it. Curious and determined to rectify that slight, Linnea promptly asked the girl about her roots, "Hey, Locke...", she asked sheepishly, "Could you tell me more about your home Island? Foosha Island right...?"

"I bet she'd take your compliment gratefully." Locke says as she remembers the first time she tried cooking..

Her mother and father weren't home, and her brother was fussing about being hungry, so she had looked through the house and tried to find something to fix.
By the time their parents got home from whatever they were doing, it was too late. There were open eggs and flour all over the kitchen table, the odd smell of cooked meat and maple hung in the air, and the both of them were covered in flour, to the point that even Locke's locks, which are naturally the green she has today, were ghostly white. Of course the both of them were in trouble after words, but Locke and her brother both had somehow made something edible...

"There isn't much there that you wouldn't expect from a blues island. The summers were always warm, the winters were a bit more variable, and most the people there seemed like they were content with their daily lives..." Locke thinks as she answers her captains question.
"Well, other than the kingdom in our back yard and the deadly sea monster that was said to be living in the bay... But the monster didn't attack most ships, so the people there dont worry about it."

"Foosha village is known for... not much actually. About the only things we export are food stuffs, and even then we dont get much business other than marines who stop by and get supplies."
Locke picks up another cookie that she made and bites it while she thought about her home.

"But as you would guess, there's no place like home!...Even if you were adopted into it...
It was this last part that Locke didn't notice come out of her mouth. That was her personal mission, but she's thought about it so much, that she cant remember talking about it out loud.

The Kuja explorer had never been to the East Blue. Actually, that was the only one of the four that she didn't ever set foot on, so she had never sailed to any of its islands and seen what they had to offer. In retrospective, she probably should have given the dangers that would lie ahead iin the Grand Line. It - especially the New World - was known as the Pirates' graveyard, and even if they all survived, there was also the marines and their crooked justice to contend with. All in all, their voyage would be fraught with danger, and there was no garantee that all of them would survive.

She looked at her friend as still had that nostalgic look on her face, smiling softly as she remained silent and instead just listened attentively to her words. Memories of home were always the most heartwarming, so she calmly allowed Locke to dwell on them as she told her story. Foosha Village was apparently the ordinary blues island, nothing particuarly worth noting. Yet for Linnea, such an average and peaceful place was equally worth seeing and remembering. Maybe the girl would take her there someday...? She also mentioned a Kingdom and a Monster at the coast, and the latter piqued her interest:

"We had thousands of those around Amazon Lily; some so big their eye was larger than our ship!!", she explained, wide eyed, moving her hands aside as if to empathize her point; she still missed her home, with Sea Kings and all, "...That's right! No place like it."

However, the last word hung on to her thoughts... Adopted? Then where was she from? An odd idea was forming in Linnea's mind... It was much to small for her to put her finger on it, it was nothing but a hunch at this point. BUt she couldn't shake the feeling that something about Locke was incredibly familiar, and it felt like the more she asked the girl about it the more likely she was to eventually figure it out. Plus, she would also grow more acquainted with her Blacksmith's background, so that would just be hitting two birds with one stone.

"So you were born elsewhere...?", Linnea inquired the obvious, raising a quizzical eyebrow and eating another cookie, "Where was that?"

Thousands!? And creatures large enough that our ship wouldn't even seem like a nibble?!" Locke says in shock, her imagination could comprehend those things, but they terrified her to the very core. "How does your people even survive there? And how did you survive getting to the blues?"
she asks, with only a smidgen of doubt in her mind.

After Linnea's new question, Locke blinks for a second...
"Oh, did I say that out loud?"asked the greenette as she tries to remember her fuzzy past "I...I dont know who or what my parents are. The only thing I remember from that long ago was a storm, and a woman looking at me who looked like me... As in the hair color and amber eyes, I cant remember what her face looked like though."
Locke's eyes started to tear up as she sifted through her past "I was going to travel out on my own to try and find her, that's what I promised myself... But with your crew in the works now, I.. I guess I'm not doing this alone anymore."
She smiled at Linnea, though here eyes were still shedding tears, it was a genuine smile. "Captain, I would like to be the girl you can depend on, whether it be in battle, reinforcing your bow, or even a shoulder to cry on! Locke saluted her captain, in a funny yet respectable way...

Yet in her mind she cant help but think "If I was to have a sister... She would be the one."

She could sense Locke's incredulity, and indeed it was a feeling she was used to whenever she told one such story. Not many people would readily believe she successfully left an island inside the Calm Belt, but the Kuja had their ways, owing to centuries of living on Amazon Lily.

"Kuja vessels are pulled by giant venomous snakes even the Sea Kings don't dare provoke. Women of Amazon Lily have long learned how to tame snakes and rely on their abilities for our benefit.", she explained calmly, thinking back to the snake bows and clubs her fellow tribeswoman used, and even herself used at some point. She even thought back to her own snake partner, who had remained behind on Amazon Lily when Linnea left on her exploration, "They are revered creatures in our tribe; You'd be surprised at how useful they can be. From allies to pets, from tools to friends..."

Their reverence was such that most surnames of the Kuja tribe had something related to snakes in one way; Naga's own was no exception.... Lin was disappointed to hear that Locke didn't know much about where she was born, only that she remembered a woman with amber eyes and green hair - likely her mother even if she didn't actually say it - and sailing through a storm. However, Linnea's eager and innocent curiosity was soon replaced by a sense of sadness and regret as recalling her painful past soon had the pretty Blacksmith in tears.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have pushed the subject...", she apologized with a reassuring, soothing tone; pulling Locke's head to her cushiony bosom while petting her head. She would let the girl cry her tears in Linnea's surprisingly warm embrace, showing she had learned to control her Ice powers enough to keep herself at an average person's body temperature.

Soon the girl recovered from her emotional outburst, looking up with misty yet determined eyes, professing her desire to be her dependable crewmate and blacksmith, and even her shoulder to cry on, which had Linnea let out a cheerful, slight chuckle at the irony of how the situations had just been reversed, "I appreciate it, Locke... I'll be your guardian in return.", she answered, still petting the girl's hair...

Venomous snakes huh? I wouldn't want to mess with them ether..." Thought Locke as she heard a bit more about Linnea's homeland. It sounded like the Kuja were extremely dangerous... "I'm glad I'm on your side then."

As long as they are friendly."
The greenette thought as she wound her head around a culture full of snakes while wondering what other things might be the more unique about the captains people.

The words of worry from her friend brought Locke out of the foul memories, but not enough to stop the tears. She wasn't expecting the captain to bring her in for a reassuring hug, and though the greenette had seen the blond's body turn to ice a few minutes earlier, the personality of Linnea hadn't changed icy.

After most of Locke's tears had stopped falling, she asks her captain, while slightly embarrassed about herself opening and letting loose her shadows "Would you mind helping me find my mother, when we get the chance from between attacking and being attacked by Marines?"

After Linnea puts her answer down, whether it be good or bad for the greenette, Locke starts to sense a few figures that might be a part of their crew... and then remembers the lack of clothes on her. After a quick run to the ship, she quickly changed into some better clothes and comes out with a big smile on her face to welcome back her crew mates. [End]

Locke sounded far from reassured by Linnea's words, and in a way she actually understood. Though Snakes were mostly friendly in Amazon Lily, Linnea learned at her own expense that such wasn't the case in the Four Blues, where the girl had lived most of her life and accumulated her life experience. She kept the girl rested against her chest, gently petting her while she still had tears to shed, yet this was the most that Linnea could do for her friend. It saddened her, being powerless to help her any further, but she still held strong and tried to be a safe haven as much as she could...

Seeing as the girl looked rather embarassed and struggling to find the words to say something, Linnea looked into her eyes with her kindest gaze, letting Locke speak her heart and will. She wasn't surprised with her quest to find her mother, but she was rather surprised to hear the girl open up to her so easily, and even ask for her help. It humbled her to no extent, making the huntress blush and smile sheepishly, with a surprisingly reliable tone, "Of course...! Come talk to me when you feel up for it, we'll talk about where to start looking."

Linnea might not be the brightest apple in the bunch but she considered herself rather smart, and posessed a keen, strategic intellect. She was curious and liked to think about things, so it was hard for her to even consider blindly searching for someone without first talking about it, but regardless of how much or how little Locke knew about her mom's whereabouts, Linnea would still help.

But soon, she felt other people appoaching their secret ruins, and before long Locke had ran off in a hurry to get dressed... They'd have to revisit the search issue some other time...

[Exit]
